Altersbach ?...where the heck is Altersbach?
Altersbach is a small village in the centre of Germany’s green heart, the Thüringer Wald natural park,
a wonderful tourist resort. Not far from Altersbach is not only Rennsteig one of Germany’s most popular hiking trails but also the famous ski resort Oberhof (known for it biathlon championships and annual world cups, ski jumping and toboggan runs) as well as the county town Schmalkalden with its medieval city centre (half timbered work) and its magnificent renaissance castle Wilhelmsburg.
From Altersbach it only is a short drive of 20 km to the past ducal residence Meiningen where one can visit the famous traditional-rich theatre. It´s wonderful.
If you’re a passionate hunter or interested in weapons you shouldn’t miss out on visiting the near by city Suhl and its unique weapon museum (hand weapons) located in a traditional half-timbered building.
Conclusion : visiting the region is definitely worth a trip ! Not only does it offer so many tourist attractions, but it’s also the home of:
corsets & more
From Steinbach-Hallenberg :
About 120m from main street turn to the righten into the Renterei (it is the second way right after the city name sign),
after 50m to the right and after 100 m to the right again. Up to the hill and you got it!
From Rotterode :
After the city name sign the third way to the left (left at the stoned fountain to the Renterei),
after 100 m to the left again. Up to the hill and you got it!
